 LiveJournal SchmiveJournal
Being on this forum for a little while now, it seems to me that you're all the thinking type (ie you don't have to use LOL as the EXTENT of a conversation ¬_¬ ) so I gather some of you must have journals. For those of you in possession of one, do you generally consider it to be there for the benefit of others to read, or do you write in it for yourself? Does that even make sense? What do you personally get out of keeping one? Do comments matter to you?
I had a journal on Blurty for a year but when LJs became free, my online friends persuaded me to change to an LJ this year so that they could read it via their friends pages. I don't think they do to be honest. Should it matter?
Link to them too if you like. I have one but I'll wait for you lot first so that you don't think I'm just plugging my own (which hasn't had comments since I don't know when ¬_¬ ) and I warn you, it's dangerously on the pink side. Oh and it's friends-only. There's an idea: We could expand our friends lists from here.

I... do not have a livejournal. I am intimidated by the sheer size of the LJ community, and most of the people I know that that have them are the type that I want to stab their eyeses out with a spoon. ^^;;;
I do have a little bloggy journal-ish thing though. link is in profile, if anyone cares :P
It's not a proper online journal, as no one can comment on it, although if I ever figure out the html to do that, I might. Maybe. I don't really like the idea of random people making comments about my life. I get enough unwanted wiseass remarks as it is ^^;;
I don't really write for anyone but myself, and occasionally I post random things for a few friends of mine, but it's mainly just for me. It gives me a place to rant and rave about nothing, and a place where I won't be laughed at or mocked mercilessly for my tastes.
Or... something to that effect.

I have two ljs... One that I share with my muse (username museandmistress), and one that is allll mine (shy_dramaqueen). In the first the Muse and I usually post stuff either for each other or for others, and I put fics there once in a while. The other one is more of a diary, because I type faster than I write by hand, so I can actually take two minutes of my day to remind myself what I have done with my life since I last wrote. But I tend to write in a "hello, person who reads this"-style, not as privately as I would in a regular diary.
I have often regretted not keeping a diary, so I'll try to keep these two active. The brain can't store everything I want to remember...

I actually have a lot, but some of those are just accounts I signed up for when bored and never used. I have a main one, one where I can post my writing to get feedback and beta-ing and a deadjournal that dates back to high school which I only keep around in case anyone on my friendslist actually posts.
Mostly I use my journal to record my day, not necessarily to communicate with other people. Sometimes I forget other people read it.
Um... if anyone cares, the one about me is <a href="http://orchidee.livejournal.com">here</a>

I'm a blogger snob. Never liked the way livejournal was set up for my tastes. Friends list? Enh... seems like one of those friendster type things where people try to add as many people as they can.
Of course, I do have a lot of friends who have ljs and I enjoy reading them. Just like blogger better myself.
*points to signiture* Linky goodness.
Why do I write in my blog? It's partially just a way to organize my thoughts. I write a lot in general (and maybe one day someone will actually pay me for it), and so it's just a natural progression to want to document my life in some manner.
Another reason why is cos since my friends from high school and then some online friends I've made over the years have all spread out all over the country, and so I like to update them on what's going on. I know I have a handful of people who read fairly regularly, and some of them have blogs/ljs that I read as well.
Do comments matter? I like it when I get them, sure. But I don't write in my blog with intent of getting a reaction. I write it more for me than anyone else, but I'm glad people enjoy reading.
I think occasionally my family has stumbled across the blog, but they don't really mention it and I don't either. I just sort of pretend that they don't read it cos I don't want to be self-conscious about what I'm writing. If they have a problem with something on there, then I trust that they'll mention something. If not, it's like they were never there at all...
Okay. This post was entirely too long.

I don't have an lj, but I do have a diary on freeopendiary. And it sucks pretty hard. I just use it to record my day(About every two weeks. Or months. Whenever I start feeling guilty about never updating, really.) and make smartass comments to the five people that read it. And yes, that is a relatively accurate number: Aaron, who moved to xanga but still checks back; Brianna, who apparently moved to xanga but still updates her FOD more than I do; Corey, who just posts links to LUE that only he, Aaron, and Chewie can see; Lindsey, who updates even less than I do; and Daniel, or Chewie, Lindsey's boyfriend who writes about his relationship with Lindsey and makes me wonder how little I know about her. Whee. Actually, I think Erin might start reading it as well, but seeing as no one here has any slight clue who these people are, I will stop.
I've been thinking about moving to lj or, more realistically, to xanga. I know more people who post on xanga and I actually do have an account there just so I can read Aaron's. But meh. We shall see in time.
I just had a piece of chocolate mousse cake from Hooter's. When they say chocolate, they mean chocolatechocolatechocolatechocolate-y.
AFTERTHOUGHT: The link's in the profile.

I have an LJ. My user name is kar_chan. Comments are really fun to get, and I have to admit that they're part of the reason I post. Otherwise I would have never had it on the internet in the first place.
I use my LJ most for putting results to quizes. That's the main reason I wanted one in the first place. I still write in it though. I would have just gotten a blog if I a) knew how to make one b) found one the was easy to work and didn't cost money. I wasn't really successful, obviously.
I go to it when I'm bored and random search through other people's journals and sometimes post. I've, interesting enough, made a couple of friends this way.
I have about five journals in real life that I've kept since I was about eight years old. In my openion, nothing beats paper.

I have a LJ that I use, but mainly I just write on it whenever I feel so inclined, and I really don't care if people read it or not. I never post anything that would interesting to anyone outside of me, really, but I do get the occasional lurkers.
Generally, I think they're stupid. I'll read them occasionally if their owned by my friends or related to a comic in some way, but mostly they piss me off. I'm tired of LJs popping up in my google search results. Livejournals, and mp3 playlists.
Sidenote: One of my cousins almost got expelled for expressing his desire for one of his fellow classmates to die in his deadjournal. This from the school that ignores constant drug use, gang activity, and fights. Such BS.

Ok. Six people read it. Erin is officially yelling at me to update my diary. I feel... amused and special.

The Livejournal site doesn't like me. I can't edit any details apart from making posts, which I do so rarely anyway. My main use for LJ is the ability to comment in other people's ljs.

I have an LJ under the surprising username of <a href="http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=tancaliel"><img height="17" border="0" src="http://www.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif" alt="tancaliel" align="absmiddle" width="17"></a><b><a href="http://www.livejournal.com/users/tancaliel/">tancaliel</a></b>, which I used to write in on a nearly daily (and quite often more than once a day) basis pre-2004, but I now haven't written anything in it for... *checks* almost six weeks. :X But I've had periods of complete LJ-absence before, so who knows, I might pick it back up one of these days and start writing in it as actively as I did before.

Blogger is free, unless you get their special premium service, whatever it's called. (bloggerpro? something like that?)
And you can just pick one of the templates that they offer if you don't want to design one yourself. It's pretty easy.

Nobody likes diary land?I love that it's fully customizable, and that when I get a paid account -- which is pretty cheap, and which should then incline me to update much more often -- they give you lots of storage space and comments, which is good enough for me. Here's my neglected, 6 entry, 3 year old diary (well, it's recently been weeded out.) Oh, diary-land diary, if I weren't so lazy, I'd treat you nicer.

No one really uses DJ anymore. I just keep it around because I'm too lazy to transfer all the private entries to another place. Now it's just a dump box for poems I hear and I like.
Lisa, maybe you should get a livejournal. No codes required anymore, so it's completely free...

He probably posts from library or school computers. Or one of those internet stores.
The best solution is to just keep deleting unwanted comments until he gives up and goes away...

You could... block anonymous comments. Report the comment as spam when you delete it (that's a new feature, yes?). So on and so forth. Post friendsonly. Yadda.

Um... hi.
I'm about to sound crazy, but... I have three LJs. I have my personal LJ ( <a href="http://pixeechuu.livejournal.com/">Pixee Kisses</a>), my icon journal (<a href="http://www.livejournal.com/users/pchuu_icons/">Pchuu Icons</a>, where all my pretty icons live) and my "Et-cetera" journal for "Et-cetera" goodness (<a href="http://www.livejournal.com/users/etc_comic/">Et-cetera</a>).
Right. I'm done.

I have three LJ's but I only write in two now.
The first one I only bitched in, about my husband, problems we had, sex... And then one day while I was using moms computer I noticed she had a link to it and I promptly died of embarassment.
I closed that one down.
The second I write about personal stuff, dreams, hopes, Sex But its private.
And the third... well thats for my friends to read, but it sucks so I wont link anyone.

Used to be a dj spaz, and have more friends there, but got annoyed and went to lj. So, deadjournal has past and currenty stuffs, livejournal just currents.
If you want to be bored to death, feel free, I'll add ya if you comment and rot. Oh, and if I pop onto your journals/blogs/etc and you don't want me theres just tell me.

Yay for reviving dead topics.
I've succumbed to popular convention and gotten myself a livejournal, so don't be surprised if I start adding random people from the Closet to my friendslist ^^;;;

Well, since this topic was revived, I'll add mine to it:
music_muse is my general lj. Whatever's on my mind that I feel like talking about. I've been decently good about writing in it at least occasionally recently. I've had times where there were a lot of "I'm still alive" entries, though. I'd be a hypocrite if I cared too much about comments, as I don't comment much myself, except when the fit takes me. If people friend me, I generally friend back, as long as we have some interests in common.
I also have magic_fool which is just my writing. That one is friend's only, as I don't want random people possibly stealing my ideas. If people aren't going to comment on that one, they might as well not bother, as that's the whole purpose of the journal.
I have one more as well that I won't even bother saying the name of, as it's entirely private except for the very first entry, and it's basically a dumping ground for all my self-loathing. No one wants to read it anyway.

I have one.
I feel that it is a quick and easy way to document any thoughts I have or just daily events.
I still keep a paper journal, but I do so sparingly for things that I really feel I should have a hand-written account of.
One day, when I find myself finished with LJ, I plan on printing out all my entries like a journal anyway, but that's a lot of time and effort.
There are times when I wish to pose/share an insight with others, or let others know what kind of day I'm having and that's when LJ comes in handy as a community. Other times, if I want it to be personal, I can lock it, but I don't usually have anything of that sort. That's what the paper journal is for.

My lj username is maggiebloome - I know someone on Dead journal, but most of my friends have live. Oh and one at blog-city.
My friends page can basically be divided into angst, quizzes and block paragraphs containing many ...s
I, on the other hand, write in my lj for the purpose of others amusement, as a kind of practice in humourous writing and to keep my netpeeps informed on my life, so you lot are welcome to have a look. I have sunk into the occasional angsty reflecton and one or ntwo amusing quizzes and things, but I'm happy to say i've avoided the block paragraphs.

I have an LJ! The name is xx0imhaunted0xx and I tip my imaginary hat to you if you know that references Evanescence. I generally use it for my own purposes, but lately I've been locking out some of my friends and only letting certain people see entries. That's mainly because if I don't, and I say something that offends a friend of mine, I'll get murdered and found in a back alley. The ones who can see my entries are those whom I trust to not try to kill me if I offend them.

I have an LJ that I only started so I could post on other people's LJs. Then I realized how much fun it is. I can rant and rave about anything I want, or I can just make weird random observances. A lot of the stuff I write is tongue-in-cheek, such as The Battle of the Christmas Tree (which is a totally true story, btw), or my True Feelings About Elves.
I like having a journal.
The only reason I even have friends listed on my LJ is so that I can leapfrog to their, and then to other people's, LJs from another computer - all the LJs and blogs that I read are already linked to My Favorites on my home computer, so that I can go there instantly.

I haven't had anything to rant about, lately, so I haven't updated since the 20th.
